What is a Twitter thread reader?

A Twitter thread reader takes one post from a thread and shows every post the author chained to it, in order, as a single readable page. It is also called a thread unroller. You skip the clicking through replies, the login prompts and the side conversations, and read the thread the way the author wrote it.

How to unroll a Twitter thread in three steps

  1. Copy a post link. On X, tap Share on any post in the thread and choose Copy link. It does not have to be the first post.
  2. Paste it above and press Unroll thread. Links from x.com, twitter.com and the mobile app all work, and so does a bare post ID.
  3. Read or save it. The thread appears numbered from the first post down, with photos inline and videos linked to X.

Behind the button, the reader finds the first post of the conversation and follows the author's own replies from there. Posts by anyone else are skipped, and so are the author's answers to commenters, which is what keeps the result readable.

Read a Twitter thread without logging in

Open a thread link while signed out and X often shows a sign-in prompt, or the first post with the rest of the conversation hidden. The posts are still public; only the app is gated. The reader shows the same public thread with no account, so a thread shared in a group chat or a newsletter opens for everyone.

To read an account's other posts the same way, use the free Twitter viewer, which shows any public profile or search without logging in.

Save a Twitter thread as text, Markdown or PDF

  • Copy as text puts the thread on your clipboard numbered 1/n, with the author, date and source link, ready for an email or a document.
  • Copy as Markdown keeps paragraphs, images and a link back to X, for Notion, Obsidian, GitHub or any notes app.
  • Print or save as PDF opens your browser's print window with only the thread on the page, in black on white. Choose Save as PDF to download it as a document.

The PDF is made by your browser, not by us, so it works on any device that can print, and nothing is uploaded.

GetXAPINo, an API keyOne call returns the whole thread as JSON$0.005 per thread; for developers

Last updated October 10, 2026. Thread behaviour checked against X's help page on threads and the tweet thread endpoint documentation, and tested on live threads of 1 to 10 posts.

Unroll threads in your own code

Everything above is one API call. GET /twitter/tweet/thread?id=POST_ID takes any post in a thread and returns the author's full thread, first post first, as JSON with text, media, engagement counts and a complete flag. It costs $0.005 per thread, with no X developer account to apply for; a key is issued at signup with $0.10 in free credit.

curl -H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_GETXAPI_KEY" \
  "https://api.getxapi.com/twitter/tweet/thread?id=2057796375233073524"

Teams use it to archive threads, feed them to a summarizer, or turn them into newsletter drafts. To pull every reply under a post instead, the search API covers conversations, and the scraping guide explains when an API beats a scraper.

Frequently Asked Questions

Copy the link to any post in the thread (the Share button, then Copy link), paste it above and press Unroll thread. The reader finds the first post and shows every post the author added, in order, on one page.

A thread is a series of connected posts by one author. The author writes a post, replies to it with the next one, and keeps going, so a long idea reads in order from the first post down. Two posts or fifty, it is still a thread.

Yes. Unroll the thread, click Print or save as PDF, and choose Save as PDF in your browser's print window. The page prints only the thread, in black on white. You can also copy it as plain text or Markdown for notes apps.

It is free and needs no login. Each visitor can unroll around twenty new threads an hour, and threads are cached, so popular ones load instantly and do not count. For bulk use, the same thread endpoint is available through GetXAPI at $0.005 per thread, with $0.10 in free credit at signup.

The post was deleted, the account is protected or suspended, or the link was copied incompletely. Protected accounts are private to their approved followers, so no tool can show their posts.

Paste the thread's link into this reader. X shows a login prompt to many signed-out visitors and hides the rest of a conversation, but the thread itself is public, so the reader can show it without an account.

No. Paste a link to any post in the thread, including one from the middle. The reader works back to the first post and returns the whole thread from the top.

No. The thread is the author's own chain of replies. Replies from other accounts, and the author's answers to those replies, are left out, so you read what the author wrote and nothing else.

No. Reading a thread here does not log you in, follow, like or reply, so there is nothing for the author to see.
